Transplant Teams

Everyone’s transplant team can be different, not everyone that is listed is someone that people are required to see. Team members are assigned to you based on preference and requirements. Transplant team members are as follows; Surgeons, hematologists, coordinators, social workers/psychologists, cardiologists, dietitians, pharmacists, financial specialists, data specialists, support personnel and administrators. Some of the people you may never meet and some you may not need. In my case, I didn’t need a dietician but I requested for one to help me stay on track and educate me on what diet was best for me specifically. I’m currently trying a Mediterranean influenced diet, with a few exceptions. I’m not perfect by any means and there are days I cheat but I’m really trying to hold myself more accountable. It’s all a process and a lot of new things all at once, so I just take it day by day. The transplant surgeons specifically, I won’t meet most of them until the day of the surgery and God only knows when that day will come. The people I speak with the most are my coordinators, I talk with them every week if not every other week. Like I’ve said before, it’s not required you talk to them as often as I do but I just like to always give them updates and ask questions. The most important thing for everyone is to stay informed, be willing to learn and make changes. Take care of your body and remember a happy body makes a happy mind and a happy heart
